Budget cuts reduce weekend services at Washoe County Sheriff’s Office

RENO -- Washoe County Sheriff's Office staff will no longer be available to help residents file non emergency reports during the weekends.

Sheriff Michael Haley said budget cuts mean the new, weekday-only schedule went into effect this weekend.

Residents can still file reports at the sheriff's office front desk from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday. They can also file them online at the department's website, or through a 24-hour online reporting station located in the sheriff's office lobby .

The non emergency reports include illegal dumping, vandalism and vehicle accident reports.

Haley said the sheriff's office sees more of those reports come in on weekdays and evenings than during the weekends.
