Burglary cases surge at UNR in last year
RENO -- Burglaries have increased significantly at the University of Nevada, Reno in the last year.
UNR police said the increase covers all manner of burglaries, but most cases involve property stolen from vehicles.
University Police Chief Adam Garcia told the Nevada Board of Regents that the totals have increased by about 67 percent since 2009.
Garcia said part of the increase may come from an effort to get more students and faculty to report when there has been a burglary.
Garcia said police believe the burglaries are being committed by people outside the university community.
