Californian, 21, captures Miss USA title

Miss California USA Alyssa Campanella, 21, was crowned Miss USA 2011 Sunday during the annual pageant at Planet Hollywood Resort.

First runner-up in the pageant was Miss Tennessee USA Ashley Durham.

Rounding out the roster of finalists were Miss Alabama USA Madeline Mitchell, the second runner-up, and Miss Texas USA Ana Rodriguez, third runner-up. Miss Nevada USA Sarah Chapman, 27, a preschool director from Henderson, was not included among the first round of 16 quarterfinalists.

Campanella now will represent the United States in the Miss Universe pageant, scheduled for Sept. 12 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
