Cannery to open racino near Pittsburgh

Cannery Casino Resorts announced this morning it will open its permanent racino facility near Pittsburgh on April 15 at 10 a.m., pending final approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

The Meadows Racetrack and Casino is the Las Vegas-based casino company's first venture outside Clark County.

The new $155 million facility will have 3,700 slot machines, eight restaurants, a live entertainment venue and a new grandstand over the harness racetrack.

It will replace a $50 million temporary 1,738-slot machine complex that opened in June 2007.
The temporary casino will close at 5:59 a.m. EST on April 13.

Cannery Casino Resorts owns the Cannery in North Las Vegas, Eastside Cannery on Boulder Highway and the Rampart Casino in the JW Marriott in Summerlin.

A $1.75 billion deal to sell the company to Australian-based Crown Ltd. was amended last month. Crown will pay $370 million to acquire 24.5 percent of Cannery Casino Resorts by June, and has two years to pay the remaining $1.4 billion to close the acquisition under its current terms.
