Cat killings explained
A roving bobcat, not a person, mutilated two pet cats in a southwest valley neighborhood last month, Clark County Animal Control investigators told the County Commission on Tuesday.
Reports of the slaughtered cats in Mountain’s Edge prompted county Commissioner Susan Brager to propose slapping felonies on those who engage in extreme acts of animal cruelty.
The Legislature would have to approve any changes in the law.
After learning that a wild predator killed the cats, Brager withdrew the proposal Tuesday.
She and Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani instead will explore increasing the county’s fines for animal cruelty cases.
