CES: These buds are for you!

NOTE: I still have plenty of cool items in my notebook from last weeks' International Consumer Electronics Show, and I'll be sharing the items here and in my next few columns.

Ever wonder what size your ears are? I'm not talking about the length of the lobes or the angle of the flap, but the size of the hearing canal that is the temporary home of those ear buds you push in to listen to your favorite tunes. I'm a size 6, which I learned with the help of the folks at the Yurbuds booth at the press-only ShowStoppers show that was part of the CES.

Better yet, I now have a pair of customized ear buds that fit snuggly and actually improve the quality of the sound a bit. It's nearly  impossible for them to fall out accidentally, as even strong tugs on the cord don't move them. Yurbuds.com has all the detail of these tiny ear bud enhancers that slip over the speakers of any standard Apple-style ear buds.

They cost $29.99 for a pair for a full set, including the standard buds, or just $20 for a pair of enhancers only.  You can buy two pair of the soft silicon enhancers for $30 through the site.They do have some alternate styles available through their site. The Yurbuds also work well with Bluetooth headset devices. They will soon be available at Best Buy.

Sizing of the Yurbuds is simple, as you shoot a photo of your ear either with a pair of standard buds inserted, or with a friend holding a quarter just beside the ear. The photo is sent to the company and a size determined in about a day. The company showed off their new iPhone application that expedites the sizing process, but it is not yet available through the iTunes store. I will write an update with the name of the app as soon as it's ready.
