Chancellor says proposed UNLV speech code is dead on arrival

University system Chancellor Jim Rogers this morning all but declared the death of UNLV's long-planned "Bias Incidents/Hate Crimes Policy," a document criticized by the ACLU of Nevada as an unconstitutional speech code.

Rogers said the policy, which mandates that campus police respond to forms of free speech and expression if someone claims to be offended, is "a tear-up and a redo."

The policy, requested by the elected Board of Regents, was set to take effect July 1.
