Chaperons pick up student left behind at Disneyland

Two chaperons from Canyon Springs High School needed to rent a car in Barstow, Calif., to pick up an 18-year-old female student who was left behind at Disneyland on Friday.
Clark County School District officials will be looking into the incident to make sure protocol was followed, but Kelly Bucharie, a district administrator responsible for the school, attributed much of the confusion to Grad Night, a popular tradition where seniors stay up all night at Disneyland.
The theme park in Anaheim, Calif., serves a lot of different high school groups every night. "If you have ever been to Grad Night, you know there are lots of buses in the parking lot," Bucharie said.
Two buses transporting 94 seniors and nine chaperons originally left Canyon Springs, 350 E. Alexander Road, North Las Vegas, on Thursday afternoon and were to return Friday morning.
The girl, whose name was not disclosed, apparently got separated from her friends and was late in leaving the park.
Chaperons thought she was on one of the two buses and did not realize she was missing until they were en route to Las Vegas on Friday morning, Bucharie said.
The girl waited for the chaperons at a Disneyland hotel. Officials assured her family that she was safe.
