City officials must make do with pat on the back

Three of Las Vegas' highest-ranking officials got words of thanks and little else Wednesday during their annual review before the City Council.

City Manager Betsy Fretwell, City Attorney Brad Jerbic and City Auditor Radford Snelding are reviewed annually for performance, and that's when raises, bonuses or benefit perks are bestowed.

With the city mired in a financial crisis that has forced cuts and layoffs, there were no monetary rewards this year.

The council unanimously approved motions saying "thank you" to Jerbic and Snelding. Members thanked Fretwell as well and extended her contract to 2014.

That gives her "peace of mind," Mayor Oscar Goodman said, and keeps her around so the new mayor and at least one new council member to be elected next year will have access to some institutional memory.

Fretwell's annual pay in 2009 was $223,232. Jerbic made $213,472, and Snelding was paid $157,112.
