Clark County school board has nothing but praise for superintendent

Superintendent Dwight Jones received overwhelming approval Wednesday from Clark County School District's School Board for his first year on the job.

The board, which hired Jones in September 2010, gave its first performance review of the former Colorado education commissioner at a special meeting and unanimously agreed that he acted in compliance with all its policies. The board conveyed no critical comments, only praise, but realized challenges are ahead.

"We're just getting started turning this place around," said board member Carolyn Edwards of the district, which often ranks near the bottom in the country for student academic performance.

Edwards commended Jones for acting with a same sense of urgency shared by the board.

Jones didn't list the year's accomplishments, saving those remarks for his State of the District address this morning at Chaparral High School. He thanked the division heads, many of whom he hired or reinstated from other roles in the district.
