Closure of Episcopal day school postponed
October 9, 2007 - 9:00 pm
All Saints Day School has received at least a temporary reprieve.
The school, which for 34 years has offered day care, preschool and kindergarten, was scheduled to close Oct. 19 because of financial shortfalls. However, the vestry of All Saints Episcopal Church, which operates the school, voted Sunday to postpone the closure to Dec. 21.
Since news of the impending closure broke last week, parents and staff have worked to raise enough money to keep the school open at least through fall. Based on the support received so far, the vestry chose to "take a chance on us," said Dyan McCarthy, day school director.
Parents hope to raise enough money to both cover expenses this fall and also keep the school open at least through the end of current school year.
But one thing hasn't changed: The Rev. Eldwin Lovelady, rector of All Saints Episcopal Church, said the history, work and staff of the school still will be celebrated Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. service at the church, 4201 W. Washington Ave.
