College instructor tapped to develop Elko roadway plan

ELKO -- The Elko County Commission has appointed a Great Basin College instructor to facilitate a motor vehicle use plan with the U.S. Forest Service.

Political science instructor Danny Gonzales was selected by a unanimous vote.

Gonzales will work with the forest service on a travel management plan for vehicle use in the Mountain City, Ruby Mountains and Jarbidge ranger districts. Gonzales' salary will be funded jointly by the commission and the forest service.

The deadline for a proposal is Dec. 17.

Commissioners say if forest roads go unidentified, they will be excluded from forest maps and closed to motor vehicle use.
