Commissioners vote to require new Clark County workers to live in the county

All newly hired Clark County employees now must live within county borders.

County commissioners voted Tuesday to change an exemption to the rule requiring county employees to live in the county.

The exemption allowed workers to live outside the county as long as their primary work assignment was within 10 miles of the Laughlin regional government center.

Existing employees who meet those criteria will continue to be exempt. But new-hires must live in the county without exception.

Commissioner Tom Collins said the exemption had been created so the board could get the four votes needed to pass the residency rule in 2007.
