Condo fire in northwest damages four units

Four units in a northwest valley condominium complex were damaged Wednesday in an accidental blaze that caused $75,000 in damage, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.

According to the department, the fire began about 5:24 p.m. at the Rock Springs Vista III complex at 7916 Esterbrook Way, near Buffalo and Vegas drives. The blaze began as a kitchen fire in a downstairs unit after a resident left her stove unattended to answer a phone, officials said.

A woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. One firefighter was hospitalized with a minor injury.

The fire spread through duct work for an exhaust fan above the stove. The flames spread to wood in void space between the upstairs and downstairs units. Nine residents were displaced by the fire.
