Construction site blast investigated
North Las Vegas police believe the construction site explosion heard early Wednesday by residents near Aliante Parkway and Grand Teton Drive was intentionally detonated by men seen leaving the area around midnight.
About 6 a.m., employees of Hyrock Construction reported damage to a water truck that was parked overnight in that area. The truck had a football-sized hole on one side.
Men were seen at the site when 911 calls about the blast were made to police after midnight. Police did not provide descriptions or say how many men were seen at the site.
Nobody was injured in the explosion.
North Las Vegas police spokesman Tim Bedwell said there are no known motives. No arrests have been made.
Officials at Hyrock Construction said the company has received no threats. Bedwell said.
Company management could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
The site is an extension of the Grand Teton Drive roadway.
"We don't know if this was random or the company was targeted," Bedwell said. "We definitely don't want to downplay this."
He said the explosive device was made of items "not uncommon or hard to come by" but wouldn't specify what materials were used. The device was detonated near the truck.
