CONVENTION NOTEBOOK: Nevada hats may make history
September 5, 2012 - 5:43 pm
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Smithsonian Institution liked the donkey hats of two Nevada delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
So much, in fact, that the museum asked Cindy Trigg of Douglas County and Theresa Navarro to donate their colorful, button-festooned, donkey-burdened baseball caps after the convention is over today .
"I'm still sitting here shocked. I can't believe it," Navarro said. "They interviewed us about the hats. And they said they want to put them in some hat collection."
Political hat collection, apparently.
The Smithsonian men, two feds on the floor, left their cards and said they would be in touch. The cards said the men were from the museum's Division of Politics and Reforms.
Who knew.
Navarro said she and Trigg brought the donkeys from Nevada, including a green one Navarro said she bought from Circus Circus on the Strip.
They decorated them after they arrived in Charlotte, including adding buttons promoting President Barack Obama's re-election.

So the buzz on the convention floor Wednesday night was that Oprah Winfrey would be in the house tonight when Obama accepts the Democratic nomination at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
The wealthy media personality made headlines when she endorsed Obama in 2008.
Word is actor George Clooney might be in Charlotte, too. In May, he helped raise $15 million for Obama at a fundraiser in his California home.
The entertainment is expected to be pretty lively . The lineup includes Marc Anthony, James Taylor, Mary J. Blige, Earth Wind & Fire and the Foo Fighters.
