Coroner identifies man found dead in houseboat near Lake Mead

The Clark County coroner's office has identified a man whose body was found Friday in a houseboat in the Boulder Basin area of Lake Mead.

John Eldon Stafford, 69, of Henderson, was found slumped over inside a houseboat that was parked on a trailer approximately a quarter mile from the water.

A park visitor notified National Park Service rangers after noticing a foul smell in the area.

It is not known how long Stafford had been dead before his body was found.

The coroner's office said a determination of the cause of death is pending.
