Coroner’s office says heart problem caused death of freshman

A 19-year-old freshman student found dead in February inside a dorm room at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas died of natural causes, the Clark County coroner's office said Wednesday.

According to the coroner's office, Race Matthew Salazar died from a cardiac arrhythmia. According to the American College of Cardiology website, the condition causes an irregular heartbeat, and not enough blood reaches the brain and other organs.

Salazar's body was found about 1 p.m. Feb. 22 in UNLV's Tonopah Hall, a six-story residence complex in the southeast part of the campus.
