Correctional officer denies trying to help inmate escape

A North Las Vegas Detention Center officer who was arrested last week told investigators she didn’t try to help an inmate escape, according to her arrest report.

Hollis Salahuddin, 35, was charged with one felony count of forgery and one felony count of aiding a prisoner to escape.

The arrest report makes no mention of a possible motive.

In late September, a jail worker found that the electronic record for inmate Grant Moore had been altered to say that Moore had “provided bail.”

Grant was being held at the jail on a felony warrant out of California and was awaiting extradition. Bail is not afforded to inmates awaiting extradition.

Investigators found that Salahuddin, a corrections officer, had typed the words into a computer terminal. Officers are not allowed to have access to that portion of the computer system, according to the report.

Salahuddin was arrested on Thursday.

When questioned by police, she said she hadn’t typed anything in the computer, according to the report. She said she only knew Moore from the jail, and that Moore had asked her about his charges.

Salahuddin said she called a person in booking who told her that bail had been posted. That person told police that he did not recall any such conversation with her, the report states.
