Corrections officers face discipline

Two Nevada Department of Corrections officers are facing charges in separate investigations, authorities announced Friday.

Patrick G. Ahching, 31, was charged with three felonies, including furnishing a controlled substance to a state prisoner, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and attempted possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, according to spokeswoman Suzanne Pardee.

An officer at the Southern Desert Correctional Center, in Indian Springs, Ahching was arrested Thursday after receiving drugs from an undercover officer with the intent of bringing them into a correctional facility, Pardee said.

Ahching was booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Bail was set at $23,000.

Meanwhile, Paul Chaffee, a six-year corrections officer, was indicted Friday on one count of battery with the use of a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm, Pardee said.

Chaffee was fired by the corrections department on July 3 after an investigation by the attorney general's office, Pardee said.

The investigation involved an incident in December at High Desert State Prison, also in Indian Springs.
