County to welcome new commissioners on Monday at meeting

Clark County commissioners' first regular meeting of 2011 will be on Monday instead of Tuesday, their normal hearing day.

Newly elected Commissioner Mary Beth Scow and incumbents Chris Giunchigliani and Susan Brager, who were re-elected, will swear in at 9:15 a.m.

Scow is replacing Commissioner Rory Reid, who is leaving office after serving two terms.

Commissioners will choose a new chairperson. And they might possibly name a new county manager to replace Virginia Valentine, who resigned to become head of the Nevada Resort Association.

The commission also is expected to ratify changes to the coroner's inquest system.

The reforms include letting the families of suspects killed by police to have appointed counsel at hearings, allowing officers to have union attorneys and disclosing evidence to affected parties at pre-inquest conferences.
