Court candidates announced
The 15 candidates who applied to fill in for two vacant Family Court seats were announced Friday.
The candidates will fill seats left vacant by Stefany Miley, who was elected to District Court, and Sandra Pomrenze, who was elected to the newly created Department P in Family Court.
The applicants are: Philip J. Dabney, 49; William B. Gonzalez, 47; Gregory G. Gordon, 38; Fernando Guzman, 59; Kurt K. Harris, 45; Charles J. Hoskin, 45; John Howard Jr., 61; Ronald J. Israel, 54; Keith M. Lyons Jr., 47; Terrance Marren, 60; Aurora M. Maskall, 45; Michele Mercer, 46; Vincent Ochoa, 56; Morrisa Schechtman, 49; Dawn T. Throne, 38.
The Commission on Judicial Selection will interview the candidates on Feb. 9 and 10. The commission will submit three names for each position to Gov. Jim Gibbons, who will make the final decisions.
The commission is made up of Nevada Supreme Court Justice James Hardesty, three nonattorneys appointed by the governor and three attorneys appointed by the Nevada State Bar Association.
