Cox honored for speed

So, you want real broadband speed? How about the fastest cable modem speed in the nation?
The folks at PCMag.com released the results of its Readers' Internet Speed test, and the winner as the fastest cable Internet service provider in the country is Cox, which offers connectivity in Las Vegas and other Western markets.

Cox also scored more than 80 percent faster than all digital subscriber line providers in the Western region, which includes Nevada and California. The results are based on independent speed tests from more than 6,000 customers nationwide and were conducted over a yearlong period.
“Our customers tell us that speed continues to be a primary reason for choosing and keeping a provider’s Internet service, so we strive to increase our speeds on a regular basis,” Cox Las Vegas Senior Vice President and general manager Marilyn Burrows said in a statement. “This study validates that Cox offers the fastest speeds in Southern Nevada, allowing our customers to do even more with their broadband connections.”
I’m a Cox customer. I headed to SpeedTest.net as soon as I saw this news. My download speed today for my iMac desktop that is hardwired to my router is 29.93 megabits per second and my upload speed is 2.17 mbps. I'm paying $46.99 a month for the Cox Preferred service, which includes a discount for my television/telephone/Internet bundle.
A SpeedTest of my iPhone connected to my home network by Wi-Fi showed a download speed of 17.94 mpbs and upload speed of 591 kilobits per second. Quite a bit quicker than the AT&T 3G network, which showed speeds of 1.33 mbps download and 204 kbps upload.
Cox offers download speeds up to 50 mbps. The Preferred package offers speeds up to 15 mbps, but the PowerBoost feature gives a temporary burst of speed when the capacity is available. This accounts for the higher than promised speed I showed in my test today.
