Crash kills man sought in robbery
A motorcyclist in his mid-20s wanted for a morning robbery in Henderson died after falling off an offramp into southbound Interstate 15 traffic Tuesday morning.
Henderson Police said the man had stolen an alcoholic beverage about 8:30 a.m. from a Chevron station at 3061 St. Rose Parkway, near Spencer Street.
When a store attendant pursued the man, the man flashed a gun, Henderson Police spokesman Todd Rasmussen said.
The man, who was wearing a black jacket, black pants and a black helmet, then fled the scene.
Henderson police pursued him on the Las Vegas Beltway to Jones Boulevard, where he got off and headed north.
They lost sight of him near Tropicana Avenue and Jones, Rasmussen said, but Henderson police later found his gun and helmet at a Rebel Oil gas station on the southeast corner of the intersection.
Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Kevin Honea said the man was later found in critical condition after crashing his motorcycle on the offramp to eastbound Tropicana Avenue and falling into the southbound lanes of Interstate 15.
He later died at University Medical Center.
Honea said the man was not being pursued by police at the time of the accident.
The accident forced the shutdown of the eastbound offramp to Tropicana for several hours and backed up traffic on southbound Interstate 15 to the Spaghetti Bowl.
