Crews gain on western Nevada wildfire
CARSON CITY — Crews have reported progress on a western Nevada wildfire that had threatened the ranch of former casino owner John Ascuaga.
Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center spokeswoman Elizabeth Kenna said Friday the Clear Creek Fire southwest of Carson City was 75 percent contained, with full containment expected by late Saturday afternoon.
She says the lightning-sparked fire has charred less than a square mile, or 187 acres, of sage brush along the south side of U.S. 50.
Ascuaga, the former longtime owner of the Sparks casino named for him, told the Reno Gazette-Journal he thought the worst Wednesday night when the fire moved about a mile from his Jacks Valley ranch.
He praised firefighters for halting its spread.
Evacuees of a nearby subdivision have been allowed to return to their homes.
No injuries were reported.
