Curtis talks about Monroe relations

Tony Curtis chose his words carefully when it came to clearing up one of Hollywood's biggest mysteries: Was Marilyn Monroe pregnant with his love child during the making of "Some Like It Hot"?

Curtis, 84, brought up the subject during our question-and-answer session Sunday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Rumors were going around the set that she was expecting and that he was the father, Curtis said.

But, he said, "I was married to Janet Leigh at the time and I wouldn't want to be the father." The latter comment, he indicated, was a reference to Monroe's reputation for being difficult during the filming.

According to Curtis' latest memoir, "The Making of Some Like It Hot," Monroe broke the news to him while they were confessing their affair to her husband, playwright Arthur Miller. In the book, Miller claimed he had consulted with Monroe's doctor and said there was no chance the baby could belong to Curtis.

When Curtis asked Miller what he should do, Miller is alleged to have replied: "Finish the film and stay out of our lives."
