Daisy Duke Carnival

Swarms of about 90,000 will take over Las Vegas Motor Speedway beginning Friday night and for the following two nights/mornings for the Electric Daisy Carnival, a rave of sorts in the infield of the 1.5-mile oval.

Seems more appropriate to call the event the Daisy Mae Duke Carnival to honor the “Dukes of Hazzard” character considering it’s being held at a NASCAR track.

I, however, will not be there. It’s the first major event at the speedway I will have not attended in 12 years.

The only racing will be ravers’ heartbeats after taking energy drinks intravenously or popping Ecstasy.

Junior sighting

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is so fired up to win his first Cup race in three years that he stopped by a Pole Position Raceway in Las Vegas on Thursday. Any right-left turning can help when he races Sunday on the Infineon road course in Sonoma, Calif.

His time in go-karts, however, was not to practice for Sonoma.

I heard he was paid by a casino to stop en route to Sonoma to take some hot laps with some high rollers.

Hey, seat time is seat time.

Ex-Rebel has chance to win

Former UNLV football player Evan Marchal is the latest college athlete to join NASCAR nation.

The graduate of Casa Grande High School will be on the over-the-wall gang for David Reutimann’s No. 00 Toyota at Michael Waltrip Racing.

Marchal, who grew up in Petaluma which is close to Infineon, started 12 games for the Rebels in his 2010 senior season when he packed 320 pounds onto his 6-foot, 7-inch frame.
