Democrats outpace GOP in voter registration in state

Democrats have registered twice as many voters than Republicans in Nevada since the close of registration before the June 12 primary.

Figures released Monday by the secretary of state's office show Democrats registered 9,849 voters since that time, compared with 4,651 Republicans. Another 4,462 voters registered as nonpartisan.

Statewide, Democrats have a 44,179 voter edge over Republicans. A breakdown shows 41 percent of Nevada voters are registered as Democrat; about 37 percent are Republican; 16 percent are nonpartisan; and the rest affiliate with a minor party.

The more than 175,000 nonpartisan voters will play a key role in the outcome of November's election.
