Detroit’s Bynum, Afflalo looking good
Detroit's Will Bynum and Arron Afflalo have looked great in the early going against the Dallas Mavericks, who have a 38-32 lead at halftime in Thursday's first game at Cox Pavillion.
Bynum has 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, while Afflalo has six assists to go along with six points.
Keith McLeod leads the Mavs with seven points.
Rodney Stuckey is not with the team today for “personal reasons” -- we'll do some digging.
THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT
Watching Detroit's Bynum and Cheikh Samb run side-by-side down the court is quite the site.
Bynum is one of the Summer League's shortest players at 6-foot, while Samb is the league's second tallest at 7-1.
DAD, WANT TO PLAY SOME BALL?
This may be Dan Grunfeld's first NBA Summer League, but he's certainly not foreign to the NBA.
Grunfeld's father, Ernie, is the Washington Wizards' President of Basketball Operations, and served as a coach and executive with the Knicks -- Dan's current team -- for 17 years.
Lil' Grunfeld went from averaging 3.4 points per game as a sophomore at Stanford to 17.9 ppg as a junior. He currently plays professional basketball in Spain, after spending a year of pro ball in Germany.
Father and son are both members of the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
MORE FAMILY AFFAIRS
Bryant Dunston's uncle might not have the cache of Ernie Grunfeld, but he was quite the athlete himself.
Shawon Dunston was the No. 1 pick in the Major League Baseball draft and played 17 seasons in the big leagues, being selected to the All-Star game twice.
