Discovery of gun leads to flight delays at McCarran
Outgoing flights from one terminal at McCarran International Airport were delayed for 15 minutes today after a gun was found past a security checkpoint in a women’s restroom, airport and police officials said.
Glenn Gardner, a spokesman for McCarran, said outgoing flights in the airport’s C-gates were delayed from 4:47 p.m. until 5:02 p.m. immediately after the gun was discovered.
Bill Cassell, a spokesman for Las Vegas police, said after investigating, officials determined the gun belonged to a female law enforcement officer from out of state. Cassell said the woman went through McCarran’s security, and lawfully was able to take the weapon through the terminal.
“This was not anything other than an oversight,” Cassell said. “She had all the proper paperwork” to carry the weapon at the airport.
