Discussion on ex-assistant parks director delayed by Clark County Commission

Clark County commissioners had too many questions about a $499,000 settlement and delayed a discussion Tuesday regarding a former assistant parks director who was fired over what county officials said was a flawed plan to keep parks safe during a busy holiday weekend.
At the recommendation of County Counsel Mary-Anne Miller, a closed-door session discussion will be scheduled so commissioners can ask questions about the settlement, a norm for pending litigation. At that same meeting, an item that commissioners will take action on is expected to appear on the agenda.
County officials said they fired Terry Lamuraglia in 2008 after publicized emails indicated he formed a plan to leave almost 90 parks unguarded by park police during Memorial Day weekend. The plan never came to fruition.
At that time, Lamuraglia, a former fire union official, said he followed the orders of Leonard Cash, who was the parks director. Lamuraglia said he believed he was fired because he refused to discriminate against a gay manager who he said made Cash feel "uncomfortable." Lamuraglia filed a complaint with human resources.
The settlement is pending until it is approved by the County Commission.
