Dogs’ false explosive detection lead to shutdown of U.S. 95

The Nevada Highway Patrol shut down U.S. Highway 95 at Indian Springs for about three and a half hours early Monday as a precaution while a Las Vegas police bomb squad responded to Creech Air Force Base where security police thought their dogs detected explosives on trucks trying to enter the base.

The alert to suspicious vehicles near the base's main gate, 45 miles northwest of Las Vegas, began at 3:45 a.m., according to an Air Force news release.

The Las Vegas bomb squad "determined the vehicles were safe and presented no threat," the release stated, adding that two individuals detained during the search were released.
