Donations climb to memorial fund in Guinn’s honor

CARSON CITY -- Donations of $53,718 had been made to the Gov. Kenny Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship Fund as of Thursday.

The fund was established by Guinn's widow, Dema, following the former governor's death from a fall from the roof of their Las Vegas home July 22.

Money goes to the help pay for the Millennium Scholarship program established by Guinn and the Legislature in 1999 for deserving Nevada high school graduates. Students may receive up to $10,000 to attend a Nevada college or university.

More than 225 people have donated to the fund.

To make a donation, send a check to: State Treasurer's Office, 101 N. Carson St., Suite 4, Carson City, NV 89701. Those who wish to donate also can go to any Wells Fargo Bank branch and make a deposit to the Guinn fund. Use the account number 1710741958. Contributions may be tax deductible, although donors should contact their tax return preparer.
