Driver dies as vehicle flips, catches fire
A driver died after losing control of a vehicle and crashing into the median Saturday night on Interstate 15 near the junction of the Las Vegas Beltway in the north valley, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
Trooper Chelita Rojas said the crash occurred at 6:45 p.m. as the driver headed south on I-15 approaching the beltway near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Rojas said the driver lost control and hit the median. The vehicle flipped and caught fire. There were no other passengers in the car, Rojas said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
AIR SAFETY CONCERN
Plane diverted after man tried to open door
An airplane flying from Washington, D.C., to Las Vegas was diverted Saturday to Denver International Airport after a passenger tried to open an exterior door on the plane while it was in flight.
DIA spokesman Jeff Green said that United Flight 223 was diverted to Denver at 5:10 p.m. Saturday.
Green told the Denver Post that it is "virtually impossible" to open an exterior door in mid-flight. Green said the police were interviewing the passenger Saturday night but did not know if the man would be charged.
SUSPECT CAUGHT
Man charged in slaying outside Reno strip club
One of two suspects sought in connection with a 2008 fatal shooting outside a Reno strip club has been booked into the Washoe County Jail.
Police say 35-year-old Arnulfo Carrillo was extradited to Reno on Friday and booked on a warrant charging him with conspiracy to commit murder.
Reno investigators say he was arrested in Inglewood, Calif., on Jan. 4 as a result of a Secret Witness tip.
Police say Carrillo and 25-year-old Cesar Garcia shot and killed 21-year-old Bryan Coursey during a fight outside Diamond Dolls in June 2008. Coursey died of his wounds about two weeks later.
