ELKO - An Elko City Council candidate has been sentenced to 30 days of house arrest for his second driving under the influence conviction.
The Elko Daily Free Press reported the sentence was imposed in Elko Justice Court on Pedro Marin Jr., who earlier pleaded guilty to the charge.
Marin also was given a suspended 60-day jail sentence and ordered to attend a victim impact panel, undergo monthly alcohol abuse counseling, and abstain from alcohol for a year.
According to court documents, he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.220 percent after his arrest July 2, above the legal limit of 0.08 percent for driving.
He faces four other City Council candidates in the November election.
