Elko Fair will go on despite fire that gutted office building

Organizers of the Elko County Fair say a fire that destroyed records and phone lines won't prevent this year's fair from taking place as planned.

The fair starts Friday and staff are setting up a temporary working space next to the gutted fair office building.

The fire happened early Monday morning.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports the fire destroyed most of what was inside the office building including office equipment, financial information and contact lists for volunteers. Nobody was hurt. Other records including lists of competitors in this year's fair and those who bought reserved seats made it through the fire.
