Elko man arrested for DUI minutes after filing for sheriff’s race

ELKO — Authorities say a 51-year-old Elko man with a history of run-ins with authorities was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving just minutes after filing his candidacy for county sheriff late last week.

Elko County Clerk Carol Fosmo said Ronald William Rylander attracted the attention of courthouse security, but properly filed his election paperwork and talked with a local newspaper reporter before he was arrested the morning of March 7 in Elko.

Booking records show that Rylander was jailed just after noon on a felony drunk driving charge as a three-plus time offender.

He was also charged with misdemeanor driving without a license, driving without insurance and failure to keep right, and held on $21,050 bail.

Rylander didn’t immediately respond to a telephone message and it wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
