Entries sought for Nevada Day parade

Why simply watch from the sidewalk when you can play an active role in Nevada’s 150th birthday celebration?

The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for entries in a special Nevada Day parade to be held downtown on the state’s big day, Oct. 31.

Entries will be accepted until 5 p.m. Sept. 22. For more information or to sign up, go to Nevada150.org and click on the link for the right parade city. You can also contact Nevada Day Parade producer Esther Carter at 702-229-6672 or at ecarter@LasVegasNevada.gov.

Las Vegas is hosting the parade with Nevada 150, the state’s sesquicentennial committee, with the help of a grant from the Las Vegas Centennial Committee.

Carson City, Elko and Virginia City also will hold Nevada Day parades.

The parade along Fourth Street in Las Vegas will start at 10 a.m. and is expected to feature various organizations and individuals including businesses, schools, associations and maybe even you.

If waving to crowds and marching down the street isn’t your thing, event organizers say you can participate by sponsoring a float or parade balloon or simply by watching from the parade route.
