EPA recognizes Carson City company, two state employees

A Northern Nevada company and a pair of state Environmental Protection Division employees were honored this week by regional Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Wayne Nastri for their efforts last year to protect the environment.

ComputerCorps, a nonprofit organization based in Carson City, was recognized for recycling computer and electronic waste products, in all keeping 1.6 million computer items out of landfills, according to an EPA statement.

Nevada Environmental Protection Division recycling coordinators Kathryn Fergus and Chester Sergent were recognized for making "huge strides in increasing Nevada's recycling rates," the statement read. Three of their programs diverted 50,000 pounds of electronics and more than 10,180 Christmas trees from landfills.
