Ex-education board member plans bid for U.S. Senate seat

Greg Dagani, a former member of the Nevada Board of Education who resigned in 2008 after making out with his wife during a public meeting, said Monday that he will run for the U.S. Senate in 2010.

Dagani, who was known as Greg Nance before he adopted his wife's last name, said he will make a formal announcement today after a Family Court hearing.

The hearing involves allegations made by his mother-in-law, Joan Albstein, that Dagani is an "undue influence" on his wife, Sharona Dagani, who has cerebral palsy.

Greg Dagani will run as a Republican in a primary that includes Sue Lowden, former chairwoman of the state Republican Party; Danny Tarkanian, a former UNLV basketball star; and state Sen. Mark Amodei, R-Carson City.

The candidates are competing to face Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the general election.

Greg Dagani served with Reid's daughter-in-law, Cindy Reid, on the state Board of Education. She was the board member who halted a meeting in August, 2008 to complain about Dagani's behavior with his wife.

Cindy Reid also made Dagani rescind several of his votes on issues because he had slept through the policy discussions.
