Ex-School Board member seeks to oust Commissioner Collins

Former Clark County School Board member and Republican Ruth Johnson seeks to oust Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins, a Democrat, in District B.

Johnson, who filed for candidacy Thursday, served three terms as a board member for the Clark County School District, from 1996 to 2008. If her challenge to the incumbent is successful, Johnson would become the third former School Board member on the County Commission. Commissioners Susan Brager and Mary Beth Scow both served with Johnson in overseeing the nation's fifth-largest public school system.

Two other candidates are vying for the northeastern county's District B seat: Republican Jon Blackwell and Warren Markowitz of the Independent American Party.

Today is the last day for candidates to file before the primary elections on June 12.
