Farrell, pals plan ‘Perrypalooza’

A little rock history goes down at Mirage's Bare Pool on Saturday. The original musicians in both Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros will perform together in the same space for the first time.

The occasion is "Perrypalooza," singer Perry Farrell's 50th birthday party.

Farrell tells me he's also bringing Slash, Billy Idol and Tom Morello, in addition to announced guests Juliette Lewis, Billy Morrison and members of Cypress Hill.

"The Porno for Pyro guys," he says, "I haven't even done one song with those guys in 12 years."

So he's thinking of singing not only Jane's hits but also Porno's "Tahitian Moon" (my favorite) and "Pets."

Farrell is going on the NINJA tour (Nine Inch Nails/Jane's Addiction), playing May 18 at the Palms. He says those bands may collaborate further for recordings.

He just told Rolling Stone that reuniting with the original Jane's lineup was awkward. But he tells me they are getting along, since they're older and wiser.

The obstacle has been, he says, "every one of us has devastated the other in one way or another."

"But I don't hold it at all. More than anything, I'm more afraid that they will hold it, because I love those guys, and we have some great history together."

Farrell, who turned 50 on March 29, devastated others not by undermining them or fighting in the studio, but by commandeering "the look and feel, and just the way things were gonna go."

"I get very enthusiastic and want to just run with an idea. So maybe I was less considerate of their opinions and their feelings -- and obviously risking my life. Putting my life in jeopardy by doing so many crazy things.

"That obviously can be very upsetting to somebody looking for a stable environment, like (Jane's drummer) Stephen Perkins and (bassist) Flea and friends like that. But other than that, nothing was ever malicious."

Showtime is 10 p.m. Tickets cost $115 (792-7777).

MISS NEVADA ON PARIS

Georgina Vaughan, Miss Nevada USA 2009, heard the worst pickup line of her life on an escalator at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where she hosts a Web show. She recounts with a laugh:

"This guy goes, 'Man, I heard milk does the body good, but how much milk have you been drinking?!' "

Vaughan, 21, is the host Miss USA contestant, since the pageant hits Planet Hollywood on April 19. The native Las Vegan wants to go into TV broadcasting, fashion and design. Her idol is Diane Sawyer for staying "classy, on top of her game, in a positive way."

"So many girls or celebrities are trying to get that extra media attention by doing something almost scandalous," Vaughan says. "Certain people have made it farther along in their careers due to sex tapes or drug use, rehab, or dancing on tabletops. And I think it's despicable behavior."

I pointed out that two top stars who do Vegas often enough, Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton, rose to fame in part thanks to sex tapes.

"If you actually think about it, what are they famous for? And do you really want to look up to somebody like that?" she says. "If it's escalating (to) this stuff, and people younger and younger do scandalous things, I'm going to be dreading what my kids are gonna be looking up to," when she has kids.

Upon hearing this, I ask her about her going to Hilton's birthday party at a club some months back.

She says she wasn't part of Hilton's entourage. She merely accompanied some "best friends," hair stylist star Michael Boychuck and columnist Robin Leach, to Paris' red carpet.

"I met her at Nobu. Then I walked the red carpet at Body English, went in for literally five minutes and left. We were not even there when Paris was there. We left before that," she says. "She was very sweet. She was great to meet. (But) I'm not here to celebrate somebody's birthday that I don't even know."

Vaughan loves Las Vegas. But she's not the club girl some assume she is simply because she's a woman in Vegas.

"I go camping every weekend, or hiking, or I'm always outside, like playing tennis. I hardly go to the Strip, unless it's for work.

"Being a titleholder has given me that chance to say, 'Listen. Not every girl from Nevada ... is involved in this insane lifestyle.'"
