Figures show diversity on rise at UNR
RENO -- Nearly one-fifth of the students at the University of Nevada, Reno identify themselves as students of color, the most diverse enrollment in school history, UNR officials said.
Of the 16,681 enrolled this fall, the 17.5 percent who are not white include 1,207 students of Hispanic descent, 1,141 Asian-American/Pacific Islanders, 405 black and 169 American Indians.
That's up from 16.7 percent overall a year ago, school officials said.
The university also enrolled its highest number of freshman students of color -- 23 percent of the 2,278 freshmen, including 206 of Hispanic descent, 199 Asian American/Pacific Islanders, 83 blacks and 26 American Indians.
