Fire caused $1 million in damage to Las Vegas medical building

A fire that burned a Quest Diagnostics lab and medical suites in Las Vegas on Wednesday caused an estimated $1 million in damage, a Clark County Fire Department official said Saturday.

Cause of the accidental fire was electrical in nature, said Deputy Fire Chief Kelly Blackmon.

The lab and several medical suites suffered damage or were destroyed in the 3000 block of South Maryland Parkway, across the street from Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

The first floor of the medical building was inundated with water and suffered mostly water damage, but the second floor was hit hard by the fire itself, Blackmon said. Several business offices and suites were on that floor.
