Fire damages house on Mount Charleston

A house fire on Mount Charleston in a neighborhood off of Kyle Canyon Road caused serious damage to two buildings Wednesday morning.

Firefighters received reports of a fire just before 2 a.m. on Matterhorn Way, about two miles past the Resort on Mount Charleston.

The Mount Charleston volunteer firefighter crew responded, as well as crews from the Clark County Fire Department, Nevada Department of Forestry and Las Vegas Fire Department.

According to Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Fernandez Leary, it was considered a major house fire. Several trees near the house caught fire and a portion of the house collapsed. Another small building on the property burned as well.

It is unsure what caused the fire and Leary said it may take several days to figure it out because the damage was so extensive.
