Fire guts Virginia City’s Seven Gables House

VIRGINIA CITY -- One of the older houses in the historic mining town of Virginia City has been gutted by fire.

Storey County Emergency Manager Joe Curtis said the Seven Gables House possibly dates back to the late 1870s.

He told the Reno Gazette-Journal that while all four walls of the home are still standing, Saturday's fire destroyed the interior and roof.

He said no one inside at the time was injured, but a firefighter was taken to a Reno hospital with apparent minor injuries. Four animals, including at least two dogs, also were rescued.
