Food bank receives grant from Reynolds Foundation

The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation announced a $9.4 million grant for construction and renovation of Three Square's new 70,000-square-foot building.

The building, adjacent to the nonprofit food bank's location on Pecos Road near Craig Road, will house a working production kitchen, a demonstration kitchen, a community room and 36,500 square feet of warehouse space, in addition to administrative offices.

Three Square also received donations of $2.5 million each from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and the Lincy Foundation on Friday to complete its capital campaign.

"We are pleased to be able to provide funding to complete Three Square's current capital campaign," Fred W. Smith, chairman of the Reynolds Foundation, said in making the announcement Friday.

"Particularly during this incredibly challenging economic time, hunger is a growing problem. We can't think of a better organization than Three Square to meet the need head-on," Smith said.

The foundation was started by Donald W. Reynolds, who founded the Donrey Media Group, of which the Review-Journal used to be a member. The foundation's headquarters is in Las Vegas.
