Forest Service plans controlled burns at Tahoe

RENO - The U.S. Forest Service plans to set controlled fires at Lake Tahoe this week to try to help clear out underbrush that can contribute to wildfires.

Weather permitting, the prescribed burn activities are scheduled to begin Tuesday on the northwest and east sides of the lake.

Agency officials say smoke is likely to be visible from the operations near Kings Beach and Roundhill Pines Resort. They should last only a day or so.
