Former aide to LV mayor under arrest in California

A former aide to Mayor Oscar Goodman was arrested Thursday in California on allegations of violating his probation by leaving Nevada.

William Cassidy, once a close adviser to the mayor, left the state without permission and was found at a cafe near Big Bear Lake.

An anonymous tipster called the San Bernardino County Sheriff's office and gave police a description of Cassidy's maroon Tahoe. The vehicle was located and Cassidy was taken into custody and booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

In 2003, Cassidy was charged with first-degree arson for burning down a massage parlor that belonged to his ex-wife, Xiao Ping. Before that, he had been arrested several times on charges of domestic violence against Ping.

In 2004, he reached a plea deal and was placed on probation for up to five years. His probation would have ended on April 21.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety was working to extradite Cassidy so he can face his sentencing judge, who will decide the consequences of violating his probation.
