Former president to attend summit

RENO -- Former President Clinton will join other federal, state and local officials at this year's annual Tahoe Summit, U.S. Sen. Harry Reid's office announced Thursday.

Clinton and then-Vice President Al Gore attended the first forum organized by Reid, now Senate majority leader, in 1997 to bring national attention to the ecological problems that threaten to dull Lake Tahoe's famed clarity. Clinton signed an executive order recognizing Lake Tahoe as an area of national concern and pledged federal money to help.

Others scheduled to attend the Aug. 17 forum at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village include Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons, and former U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan.
